Fowler Family Dentistry carries on the 50-year tradition of Dr. Ralph Querry, Dr. William Border and Dr. Heath Jones. Dr. Tim Downing continues their dental care in Fowler and their legacy of quality dentistry can be seen in their past, present and future patients.
Dr. Tim Downing grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Purdue University in 1990. Upon graduation, Dr. Downing was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and designated a Naval Aviator. He served as a fighter pilot, flying F-14 Tomcats and F/A-18 Super Hornets, completing six combat deployments off aircraft carriers in support of operations in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. During his service, he earned a Masters in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle University and is a graduate of the United States Navy Test Pilot School. After 21 years on active duty, Dr. Downing retired as a Commander and graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) in 2015. Complementing his practice as Fowler Family Dentistry’s Dentist, he is the Chair of the Ivy Tech Dental Assisting program and Vice President of the Western Central Dental Society.
In serving the community, he is Chair (Jan 2020) of the Benton County Board of Health and President of Boilermaker Aquatics. He has been married to Brenda, whom he met at Purdue, for 28 years and they have two children, Elizabeth and William. Outside the practice, he competes in marathons and Ironman triathlons, including the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2010. Dr. Downing likes to keep the atmosphere light so patients feel at ease in the dental chair.
Valerie recently joined our team, and brings over nine years of dental hygiene experience. She grew up in and is currently a resident of Wolcott, IN. She graduated from Tri-County High School in 2007. She completed her pre-requisites at Purdue and her dental hygiene training at IUPUI, obtaining her Associate’s degree in 2010. While at IUPUI, Valerie received the “Johnson & Johnson Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award.” It is given in recognition of outstanding professional behavior in patient care, peer relationships and faculty interactions.
Valerie is the youngest of four girls. She has three amazing brother-in-laws and seven dear nieces and nephews. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, singing, and playing the piano, organ, and accordion. She also likes to read and visit National Parks.
Amber grew up in Benton County and attended Fowler Elementary and Benton Central. She has been a certified dental assistant with expanded functions and radiographic certified for 10 years, earning her technical certificate in 2006. She is married with three children and has a granddaughter. She absolutely loves her career and enjoys spending time with family and riding her Harley.
Brittani grew up in Muncie, Illinois and graduated from Attica High School. She has three children who are all under six years old—Braxton, Ella, and Addison. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family.
Shelbie grew up in Newton County, Indiana and attended South Newton High School. She graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in Lafayette, IN with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Dental Assisting and a Technical Certificate in Dental Assisting. She also has her Radiology License, Coronal Polishing Certificate, Fluoride Application Certificate, and her Expanded Functions Dental Assisting Certificate.
Shelbie has two cats, Ouija and Salem, and a dog named Smokey. She loves spending time with her family and going to concerts.
